EM&E integrates DAS Photonics in the Group

  • The approval of the restructuring plan supported by EM&E will allow the company to integrate the photonics business into its new electronics subsidiary, EM&E Electronics.

  • This breakthrough will maintain national sovereignty in such a strategic capability as photonics.

Madrid, December 2, 2024. EM&E, a leading Spanish company in defense and security innovation and technologies, announces the integration of the company DAS Photonics into EM&E Electronics, a new company of the group with which it intends to become a reference in the electronic warfare sector in Europe.

This integration takes place after the Mercantile Court No. 4 of Valencia has approved the restructuring plan supported by EM&E, which was presented in October. DAS Photonics, a leading company in photonic nanotechnology, was in a difficult economic situation after trying for the second time to negotiate with creditors following the failure of its first plan supported by another company, a plan that the Provincial Court of Valencia rejected as it had not been negotiated with creditors. In October, and facing the possibility of Spain losing the pioneer brand in the development of photonics technology, DAS Photonics presented a second plan, in this case supported by EM&E, which did have the confidence of the creditors and which on November 18 was approved by the Commercial Court No. 4 of Valencia.

Before the end of the year, EM&E is expected to make a significant capital injection in DAS Photonics in order to obtain sole control and a strong majority of the company’s share capital and continue with the development of a technology that is strategic in the aerospace and defense fields. In addition, EM&E will lead the business management of DAS Photonics and will provide the Valencian company with all its R&D, commercial, production and human resources.

The incorporation of DAS Photonics to EM&E Electronics responds to EM&E’s strategy of attaining growth based on the integration of new capabilities, which reinforces its position in the defense and advanced technology sector. With this incorporation, it will integrate leading-edge capabilities in electronic warfare, advanced communications and applied photonics, expanding its technology portfolio to offer even more innovative and competitive solutions. This movement highlights the company’s commitment to the development of disruptive technologies that respond to the current and future needs of the defense and security industry.

In the words of Angel Escribano, president of EM&E: “We are proud that our commitment to this restructuring plan has been approved and that we are able to integrate DAS Photonics into our subsidiary EM&E Electronics. We could not allow our country to lose a leading brand in such a strategic capability as photonics as a result of previous inadequate management.”

    Electronics, a growing strategic sector

DAS Photonics will be integrated into EM&E Electronics, a new company with which EM&E plans to become a benchmark in the electronics sector in Europe. Specializing in the development and production of advanced electronic components, the creation of EM&E Electronics represents a milestone in the search for strategic autonomy and reinforces EM&E’s commitment to the technological future of the country. EM&E Electronics is born with a pan-European vision in a sector considered critical in the aerospace and defense fields, as dependence on external supplies not only conditions the capability of countries to respond to global challenges but also limits their opportunities to lead innovation.

The creation of EM&E Electronics places Spain at the forefront of a movement that prioritizes technological sovereignty, essential to guarantee our national security and strengthen our competitiveness in the international market.
